Tehran, August 15 (MRUD NEWS)—As per the mandate of Iran Urban Regeneration Corporation for the regeneration of informal settlements, a team of experts from UN-Habitat office in Tehran visited urban regeneration initiatives and projects in the informal settlements in Alborz Province and were informed about the latest activities as well as the progress of construction projects in these areas on August 13, 2023.
The health center, the rescue and relief base, and the police station in the 4th Hesar Neighborhood and the neighborhoods of Mohammadshahr were among the projects that were visited and evaluated by the experts of the UN-Habitat.
Following cooperation of Iran Urban Regeneration Corporation with UN-habitat to use international best practices and sharing successful experiences, the UN-Habitat experts visited informal settlements and urban regeneration projects in dilapidated urban areas of Alborz Province mainly as small-scale pilot province.
On the sidelines of this visit, conversations were held with grassroot activists and local trustees, and explanations were presented about the actions of the activists, volunteers and donors in holding training courses for target groups living in the informal settlements with the aim of empowering women through development of small home businesses.
Previously in May, Iran and the UN-Habitat discussed increased cooperation during the meetings of Mr. Srinivasa Popuri, senior officer of the United Nations Human Settlement Programme, Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP), with senior urban policy-makers in Tehran. In the meetings, in an attempt to achieve an integrated framework for urban planning in Iran and for sustainable urbanization, implementation of the second phase of National Urban Policy Programme (NUPP) was discussed.
